By now everyone should know that I love a good survey and am constantly on the hunt for them. A few days ago I was watching my usual YouTube videos and in my subscription box a video from Samantha March popped up and it was a reading habits tag video. My two favorite things – books and surveys! It seemed different enough to spice it up a bit around here so here we go!
1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?
Usually my couch or in bed. The East wing of my house is closed for renovations so until that’s done, I don’t have much of a choice.
2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?
I break the cardinal rule of dog-earing pages. I’ve had good old Catholic guilt about it since they taught us how to use the library in elementary school. i just can’t stop.
3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/ a certain amount of pages?
I sort of speed read so I almost skim through the pages. I can stop anywhere since I usually re-read the page anyway.
4. Do you eat or drink while reading?
If I’m reading on my Kindle, yes. If not, no because I’m not skilled enough to hold the book, hold my snack or drink and also turn pages. It would be an absolute mess.
5. Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?
I always have the TV on. I need background noise.
6. One book at a time or several at once?
One at a time. As in life, I am a monogamous type of girl. Honestly, I’ve tried to read more than one book at a time but I usually end up confusing the storylines and characters so I wind up putting one down.
7. Reading at home or everywhere?
I’ll read anywhere. When I was little I used to bring a huge backpack filled with books. Like Matilda and her little red wagon. Just in case of a book emergency. Now, I like to have my book or my Kindle with me, just in case.
8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?
9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?
If I’m reading a regular book, I’ll flip through to see if the same names are still around and see if I could figure out what’s going to happen. is that weird? I try not to outright skip pages, but if I am finding the book to be slow or boring or too much of something, I’ll skip through just to move it along.
10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?
I usually keep it like new. Not because I NEED it to be like that, but because I feel so guilty about the dog-earing pages I feel like I shouldn’t break the spine.
11. Do you write in your books?
Not usually. Sometimes I’ll highlight a quote or something that I like, but I don’t make notes or add my opinion anywhere on the pages.
12. Who do you tag?
Whoever wants to do it! Just leave me a comment or find me on social media and let me know that you did it so I could read your answers!
The other night I was scouring the internet for something, anything to inspire me. I was in my usual funk of I have things to say but don’t know what to write. I went through all of the writing prompts on Pinterest, tried to come up with a witty list, possibly entitled 20 Things To Do When You’re Home Alone That Doesn’t Involve Hulu or Netflix. Except, what is there to do besides catching up on Hulu and Netflix when you have the TV to yourself? I was about to give up when I clicked the refresh button on my Reader. Up popped a new post from Kristen over at Peaches and Poppycock. It was a tag! And she tagged me! ask and you shall receive. So, thanks Kristen! She put a limit on her word count, but you guys aren’t getting that lucky with mine.
So, without further ado:
favorite candle scent —Leaves by Bath and Body Works or Home Sweet Home by Scentsationals (you can get it at Walmart. it’s actually those wax cubes for the tart warmers. wax that smells good = candle)
coffee, tea or hot chocolate?—first of all, if i’m drinking coffee, it’s iced. second, I like all of those beverages so it just depends on my mood.
what is the best fall memory you have — i don’t really have one. early fall usually reminds me of school and sometimes i forget how old i am and i start to look for my backpack to get my homework started. old habits die hard, i guess. honestly, the only other thing that comes to mind is doing blogtober last year. i really loved that challenge (and a challenge it was!) and all of the people i’ve “met”/found because of it.
best fragrance for fall — Chloe by Chloe or Burberry Body
favorite Thanksgiving food — Stove Top stuffing. sorry, i’m just not a fan of the homemade ones. my aunt also makes this corn bread/pudding thing that i would eat the whole pan of if i could.
most worn sweater — i don’t wear a lot of sweaters because i’m always warm.
football games or jumping in leaf piles — ohh tough choice. i’m going to go with football games. we all know i feel about men in uniform.
favorite type of pie — apple or cherry, both with vanilla ice cream.
what is autumn weather like where you live — gorgeous. and the views aren’t bad either.
just two geese, checking out the pond.
looks like a fairytale bridge, huh?
which makeup trend do you prefer: dark lips or winged liner — dark lips, hands down.
what song really gets you into the fall spirit — the monster mash?
is pumpkin spice worth the hype — it used to be and then starbucks thought it would be cute to release it in august. then dunkin donuts, for some reason, decided not to release their apple cider. NOT COOL. how else are we supposed to fight against the great pumpkin (spice)?
favorite fall TV show — does “You’ve Got Mail” airing on ABC Family (or wherever) count?
skinny jeans or leggings? — leggings if i could find a long enough, light enough sweater or tunic. otherwise, skinny jeans. who am i kidding? elastic waistband for the win.
combat boots or Uggs —gun to my head? Uggs. but really, riding boots.
Halloween: yay or nay — nay. or should i say nae nae?
fall mornings or evenings — do i have to choose?
what do you think about Black Friday? — it’s cool, but no thanks. too many people, too much pressure. i think it’s bullshit that stores are not giving their employees a chance to enjoy the holiday. opening at 6pm on thursday? by that time, my pants are still buttoned and i’m not looking for the fennel to help me to digest yet. #italiansolutions. i mean, what kind of shit is that?
one Fall 2015 trend you love —blanket scarves #baaaasicccc
Earlier this week (late last week?), I was nominated for the Dragon’s Loyalty Award. This time by Elizabeth. Thanks so much and welcome back! In case you aren’t familiar with this award, here are the rules.
Put the award’s logo on your post.
Thank the person who nominated you and put a link to their blog.
Nominate 15 other bloggers.
Let your nominees know you have nominated them.
Post 7 facts about yourself.
Not to be difficult, but I’m going to have to make some changes. First, I’m going to make this open to whoever wants to do it. Tag me in your post so I can see it! Second, and this isn’t a rule change but… you’ll see.
When I commented on Elizabeth’s post to thank her, we had a small conversation about accents and I mentioned that I should do a post written in my heavy Brooklyn accent. Well, I don’t think this blog is ready for a whole post of that but I’m going to try to write my seven facts that way. Let’s see how this goes. Brooklyn starts… NOW
Hea’s the problem- I can’t think of any facts about myself, let alone seven.
I watched The Unautharized Full Howse movie on Lifetime last weekend and I definitely wasn’t impressed. After I got past the hair, it was almost impossable ta get ova tha blatant disregard of what tha set akshually looked like. More than that, it didn’t show much of tha drama that sapposedly went on. Like, Bob Saget coming to work high most of tha time. They showed him, Dave Coulier and John Stamos huffing whipped cream befawr a shoot but that was abowt it.
That being sed, I’m still totally looking foward to Fulla Howse on Netflix next year.
I’m obsessed with tha new Town Howse Foccacia crackas. Specifically tha rosemary and sea sawlt flava. SO. FREAKIN. GOOD.
Lately, baleeve it or not, I’ve had so many ideas for posts that I bought myself a planna. I was planning out awl of my posts and when they’d go up and started to feel supa orga-nized; like a real blogga. Then I realized that just becawse I wrote things down and planned them owt, doesn’t mean they would ackshually come to be. I’ve been putting things awf and then I can’t figure owt where I got so awf track. Um, it’s a planna, not magic.
I’ve been ta Disney once in my life. Due ta poor planning, we neva made it to tha Magic Kingdom. So basiclee, I went all tha way ta Florida and neva even met a Princess, neva rode a teacup. I think I need a do- ova.
I think I mentioned this befawr, but when I was in first grade the New York Aquarium was celabrating the birth of Baby Baluga. My class was asked ta join the the fetivaties and come to sing with Raffi. We were apparently filmed by PBS becawse I saw our little faces years later while I was flipping through tha channels early one morning. I’ve tried to contact both the Aquarium and PBS fowr a copy of the video but no one has it. So, if anyone has an in with PBS (or someone who can help in my search), please let me know!
Owa air conditona at work is extremely unreliable so we have those heavy duty fans all ova tha building. I can’t stand them. I’d ratha sweat for 8 owas than keep them on awl day. Really, they remind me of summa school, they’re loud (and I can’t heea) and they put me to sleep. Yea, tha last one is a mistary to me too.
I think I’m regretting tha decision to write these facts this way. I feel like I belong on an epasode of Tha Sopranos. Just cawl me Martina Walnuts.
Now, that’s enougha that.
That wan’t too painful, was it? It was a teesy bit mortifying for me but, hey I am who I am. I love my accent. There’s a video of me on my communion day where my mom is telling me how proud she is and how happy she is and I look dead at the camera and say “Awr you gonna cry?” Like I belonged on Jersey Shore. If I could figure out how to get it on to my computer and post it, I will.
Anyway, thanks again, Elizabeth for the nomination!
If you need any help figuring out what was said above, leave me a comment and I’ll help you out!
I’m a little late but I was nominated this week for the Dragon’s Loyalty Award by The Finicky Cynic! Thank you so much for the nomination and for always commenting on my posts! I’m glad to know that someone is reading them!
This award was a new one for me so I’ll share the rules, in case it’s new for you too!
Put the award’s logo on your post. done!
Thank the person who nominated you and put a link to their blog. done!
Nominate 15 other bloggers. we’ll see…
Let your nominees know you have nominated them.
Post 7 facts about yourself.
Now, seven facts about myself… haven’t I covered enough on here? Let me see what I can do.
I’m not an overly touchy/huggy person but I’d love to have someone play with my hair and scratch my back on payroll. When I win the lotto, it’s on.
2. I will watch any version of Snow White I could find. There’s one with Diana Rigg (or Olenna Tyrell for you Game of Thrones fans) as the Evil Queen. I watched it so many times I could probably still recite it word for word.
i am, thank you.
She still scares the shit out of me, by the way.
3. Except for when I broke my leg, I’ve never had to go to the hospital. Call me Monopoly because I’m just visiting.
4. I’ve passed out once in my life. I was in Florida on vacation with my family. One minute I was standing in front of the mirror while my mom brushed my hair and the next I was on the floor with my dad in my face screaming “MARTINA!“. good times.
5. I know I mentioned this in my last post but, I’ve lived in the same house and have had the same phone number literally forever. (and that, my friends, is the correct use of “literally”) The thought of moving makes me sweat. How would I know where to go? And boxes! So many boxes!
6. If I could eat one deli sandwich for the rest of my life (give or take. that’s a lot of commitment) it would be roast beef, mozzarella, and brown gravy on garlic bread. With a side of potato salad. yum.
7. I will never say no to a bouquet of flowers. Especially surprise ones. Or ones I buy myself, just because. Whatever. Just no carnations.
I wanted to be like the cool kids and write a weekend round-up but I quickly realized that wasn’t going to happen so I found a summer this or that tag on Always, Abby and since we’re heading for a heatwave here, what’s a better time to do it?
Ocean or Pool POOL. The ocean might be relaxing, but the sand that comes with it, is not. Pools also don’t have sharks or jellyfish, which seem to be running rampant on the East Coast lately.
Beach Vacation or Wilderness See, now this is where I contradict myself. I will NOT go camping. EVER. The thought of bugs and mountain lions and peeing in a bush and foraging for food do not appeal to me at all. I like driving through the woods, like if we go up to the Poconos or something but there’s a hotel at the end of that drive and that suits me just fine. That being said, I guess I’d rather be at the beach but there’s that whole sand issue. will i ever be satisfied?
Watermelon or Strawberries Watermelon – all day, every day
Bikini or 1-piece One piece; more because I think they’re classier looking and less because I’d need to be dead ten years to even think about putting one on.
Lemonade or Iced Tea Iced tea with ice, please.
Hotdogs…grilled or over a fire I’ve never had weenies over an open flame so I’m going to go with grilled.
Hat or Sunglasses Sunglasses, when I remember to wear them
Windows Down or AC all the way I can’t live without my AC. Actually, I’m OK during the day but at night I need my room to be chilly. And by chilly, I mean arctic.
Tanning Lotion or Sunscreen Tanning lotion with some SPF. My favorite, in case you were wondering, is Maui Babe Browning Lotion. It smells like coffee and doesn’t turn you orange. Just slap it on and bake in the sun.
Baseball Game or Concert Both are fun. Both are opportunities to watch men run around in tight pants, assuming you’re like me and the only (summer) concerts you’ve been to are Backstreet Boys ones.
Ice Cream or Popsicle Both sound delicious right about now.
Fireworks or Fireflies Fireflies because they don’t make me pee my pants, which is a story for a different post.
Flip Flops or Bare Feet My feet are their happiest when they don’t have shoes on, but what they fail to realize is shoes keep rocks and pieces of glass from embedding themselves in to them.
Water Balloons or Squirt Guns I remember being in camp with my cousins, filling up water balloons at the water fountain next to the smelly park bathroom. I could never tie them so I’m not sure why I always filled them. I also remember begging my parents for a Super Soaker, which I believe is still in my garage somewhere.
And there you have it. Definitely not a weekend wrap up but at least it’s something. If you want to do this tag, feel free!
Ok. I know my last post was a survey and (surprise!) this post will be a survey. I am fully aware that this is not Myspace. However, I’m stuck at work and missing my beloved Superbowl commercials so I’m feeling a bit deflated, not unlike Tom Brady’s balls. (ba dum dum) i planned for this to go up on Sunday, obviously. unfortunately, life happened. so even though it’s now old news and football season is over, i had to leave that tom brady’s balls line in because i laughed way too hard for far too long about it. moving on…
What are you wearing? Am I going to get dinner or a drink out of this?
Ever been in love? Only with my mirror. Except sometimes it’s a jerk.
Ever had a terrible breakup? Nope.
How tall are you? I’m in the neighborhood of 5’2″/ 5’3″
How much do you weigh? Did this survey just ask me how much I weigh? Rude.
Any tattoos? Nope. I go through phases of wanting one and then I wind up talking myself out of it.
Any piercings? Just my ears. And they’re crooked.
OTP? OMG so many. Mindy and Danny, Chuck and Blair, DJ and Steve, Ariel and Eric, Me and Zac Efron.
Favorite show? I named some of my current favorites here.
Favorite bands? Backstreet Boys and One Direction are all I need.
Something you miss? My youth.
Favorite song? At the moment, Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran. Of all time? there’s too many to name. Proud Mary always get me dancing though. Just like Tina.
How old are you? 27 and a half.
Zodiac sign? Cancer.
Quality you look for in a partner? He has to be funny, smart, smells good. I touched on my ideal man here.
Favorite Quote? I wanted this answer to be a mix of smart and funny, maybe thought provoking, but I can’t think of anything that is just right. The only thing that is coming to mind right now is from my favorite pocket sized crooner, Bruno Mars. “I’m smoother than a fresh jar of Skippy.”
Favorite actor? Again, so many. I think Meryl Streep is God’s gift to Hollywood. I love Anna Kendrick, Anne Hathaway, Leonardo “Where Is My Oscar” DiCaprio, Tom Hardy. Just too many.
Favorite color? Anything that sparkles.
Loud music or soft? Soft. Unless I’m at a concert, and even then I sometimes think, ” Can’t they just turn it down a notch?”
Where do you go when you’re sad? To the liquor store. Actually, no. I don’t condone drinking your problems away. I don’t usually go anywhere. I kind of just mope around until I feel better. pity parties for the win!
How long does it take you to shower? I set aside an hour and a half to get ready for work. That’s showering, getting dressed, putting on makeup, the whole nine yards. I’m late probably 4 out of 5 days so the answer is too long.
How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? More than an hour and a half.
Ever been in a physical fight? Not technically. I was pushed but I didn’t fall so I just walked away.
Turn on? Sense of humor, being smart without being arrogant.
Turn off? Talking to me when I obviously don’t want you to, asking me a question and then cutting me off in the middle of my answer, bad teeth.
The reason I made a blog? I wanted to start something and see it through to the end. Also, I got this idea in my head that somehow, someway someone with the ability to hire would see it and want me to work for them. Nothing yet.
Fears? Ugh. Again, too many. I’m afraid of everything.
Last thing that made you cry? I’m feeling stressed at work (I know we’ve been over this) so even though I haven’t cried yet, I feel it coming.
Last time you said you loved someone? The last time I spoke to my mom. I always tell her I love you before I leave or hang up.
Last book you read? “The 12 Daves of Christmas” I got it for either free or really cheap on Amazon for my Kindle. It was really cute.
The book you’re currently reading? Something Borrowed by Tina Reilly. It’s taking me fooooreverrr to read this book. Part of the reason is that I’m busier than usual and the other part is that I’m having a hard time getting in to it. I picked this one because the author’s name is really Martina and I wanted to show some support to my fellow uniquely named sister.
Last show you watched? I have Everybody Loves Raymond on right now in the background, but the last show I sat down to watch was Jeopardy. Does that make me boring?
Last person you talked to? My mom.
The relationship between you and the person you last texted? She’s one of my oldest friends who happens to live across the street from me. Nicole. it was Nicole.
Favorite food? Anything not nailed down. ha. no, seriously. I’ll try anything and usually end up liking it.
Place you want to visit? We’ve definitelybeen over this. Anywhere and everywhere.
Last place you were? I just got out of the shower so I guess the bathroom. But like last place I was before heading home? Work, aka Satan’s lair.
Do you have a crush? Nope. I really, really want one though. Is that odd?
Last time you were insulted? Oh please. I don’t consider myself one of those people who get offended at everything but I could probably say at least once a day I find myself thinking “Did they seriously just say that to me?”
Favorite flavor of sweet? Lately I’ve been craving Air Heads all the time but usually it’s chocolate.
What instruments do you play? I can’t even think of anything sarcastic to say. The radio? The pre/recorder? It’s been a while.
Favorite piece of jewelry? My grandmother wore a small M necklace all the time. I remember asking her if when she died, would I get that necklace? Before you start yelling how inappropriate that is, keep in mind, I had to be about 3 or 4. 5 the oldest so I really don’t think I understood the concept of death. Anyway, when she passed away my mom gave me the necklace. I added the cross my godmother got for me when I was baptized and I haven’t taken it off since.
Last sport you played? HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAH. Oh, I laughed from a good place.
Last song you sang? I was lip-syncing to the Disney station I made on my Pandora earlier. Believe it or not, this helps me get through the day. So, if you’re having a bad day at work (or in general) just hop on to Pandora and make a Disney station!
Favorite chat up/pick up line? Ok. I seriously had to Google pick up lines. Not because I don’t know what they are but because I’ve never had one used on me. Lame, I know. So here are a few that made me second hand embarrassed for people who use them.
Are you a camera? Because every time I look at you, I smile.
Are you an orphanage? Cause I wanna give you kids.
Did you fart, cause you blew me away. (no freaking way)
This isn’t a beer belly, It’s a fuel tank for a love machine. (um.)
Have you ever used it? No. I could never.
Last time you hung out with anyone? I went to brunch this past weekend for Lisa’s birthday. It was a good time!
Who should answer these questions next? Anyone who wants to!
My next post probably won’t be a survey but since I can’t think that far in advance, I’m not making any promises. Anyway, I hope this one answered some burning questions you had about me.
Fun fact: I was one of those people who did every Myspace survey ever created. Maybe not. That sounds a bit too ambitious; I’m lazy. But, I did a lot of them and grew to love them. I’ve been looking for a Myspace-esque survey to do and make into a post for a while now. Finally, the social media gods answered my prayers and I was tagged to do one. So, thank you Shauna for thinking of me. Now, let me just sort out my top 8 and we’ll get started.
What’s your nickname? Mar, Weenie, Mark Ween.
How tall are you? 5’3″ ish.
How old are you? I am 324 months old. Or 27. What, moms on Facebook could post a monthly photo of their children until they’re like 10 and I can’t make a funny?
Birth place? Brooklyn, NY – Just like my spirit animal, Notorious BIG
Ancestral home? Basically Italian and Hungarian. I know there’s more but I’m not sure what.
Favorite color? I’m really in to emerald green right now but anything that sparkles works for me.
i NEED this in my life.
Favorite verse in the Bible? I hate to admit this because I loved going to religious instruction but I can’t name any specific Bible verses. I feel like a really bad Catholic. #catholicguilt
Favorite cuisine? I’ll eat almost anything but my favorites are Italian and American (I guess. basically anything you can get in a good diner)
Favorite artist? We should all know the answer to this one. Backstreet Boys (movie countdown: 1 day!) and One Direction. I also really like Ed Sheeran, Adele(she’s coming out with a new album this year! hallelujah!) and Taylor Swift.
Strangest talent? I don’t think I have any strange talents, but I do have many regular talents. Reciting Golden Girl episodes, watching youtube videos, giving the benefit of the doubt, making myself laugh, over thinking things, napping, eating, reading, complaining… the list goes on.
Drink of choice? I’m obsessed with Diet Coke with lemon and ice. I’ve limited myself to a can a day but I would hook myself up to an IV of that shit if that were an option. I can’t though. I have to start drinking more water. I’m not getting any younger.
Biggest dream? Just doing what I want without worrying about anything. Traveling, jumping from job to job, shopping sprees. So, I guess my biggest dream would be to have an unlimited bank account and to have my family and friends to enjoy it with.
How do you take your coffee? Light with cream. Iced.
Currently obsessed with? Just read the last few posts on here. The Backstreet Boys’ movie, One Direction, The Mindy Project, my current work situation and how to change it, Mob Wives.
Biggest fear? Everything. Living a whole life and not having anything to show for it, never finding my “soulmate”, never amounting to anything, death. You know, the little things.
Something you never thought you would get to do? I wish I could say I’ve done really cool things in life but I really haven’t. I have absolutely no idea.
Humanitarian cause? There are so many. I’m anti-bullying, anti-animal abuse, pro finding a cure for everything, everybody should have a roof over their head, clothes on their back and food in their stomach. I wish I could give to everything.
Skill you would like to learn? I was just thinking that I wish there was something that I knew how to do without thinking. I’ll learn whatever you want to teach me. Also, I want to be a better photographer (even if that just means learning to be easier on myself) so if anyone has tips/tricks they’re willing to share, I’m here.
Experience you want to have? I want to fall in love, get married and have children. I also want to travel and experience the world. To be honest, there is a list a mile long of celebrities that I would love to meet. And from a blogging perspective, I would love to see what doors this endeavor opens for me. I’m not in this for fame or loads of money, as nice as that would be, but if I could travel because of my “splashes” or if I could make friends through this piece of the internet, I definitely wouldn’t say no.
Something random about yourself? In 5th grade we voted once a month for President and Vice President. I was voted in as President one of those months. I’m going to say I was the only girl who held that office, but I’m not entirely sure. So basically, I was the first female President.
I’m not going to tag anyone specifically. Anyone who wants to do this is welcomed to, but if Peaches & Poppycock and Honestly, Libby wanted to kill a few minutes and fill it out, I certainly wouldn’t complain.
If anyone sees any more of these, send them my way!
