quaraNYC: the city that never sleeps finally took a nap
it’s amazing how fast things can change, am i right? one minute we’re living our ok lives, being socially distant by choice and masks were reserved for medical professionals and halloween. now, we’re making the best of things, staying socially distant but with less of a choice, and personally, i have 4 masks in my bag at any given time. that was the past three months. in the last month, we’ve added the stress of re-opening the city/country AND social justice protests, riots and movements. the senseless murder of George Floyd at the hands of a police officer in Missouri sparked up the Black Lives Matter movement in a big way. i’m…

martina is losing it #6
Now that my birthday has come and gone, I could tell you that I didn’t hit 31 for 31. Instead, I hit 32 pounds! I’m being kind of cavalier with my finger guns and semantics, especially since I weighed in before my birthday weekend. My birthday was very nice, thanks for asking. Anyway, 32 pounds. My mind is constantly blown. I will never stop saying how surreal it is because it will never ever stop feeling surreal to me. For my birthday, I knew I didn’t want to drink. I drank at Jessica’s birthday celebration and I gained a pound, so that wasn’t happening again. I ordered a lobster roll…

i’m more of a giver
Well, friends, we’ve reached that time after Christmas where every blogger, YouTuber, and humblebragger on social media is starting to share what they got for Christmas. Because I am more of a giver (and because I’m pre-writing this and Christmas hasn’t actually happened yet), I’m going to share a gift that I gave this year instead. Earlier in the month, I received an email from the friendly people at Photowall. They asked if I would like to try one of their products. I saw that they offered canvas prints from your own photos and I knew my roommate mom has been wanting to get a few of my photos printed on…

weekend update: christmas shopping, light displays and historic houses
So, it’s Sunday night and I’m actually writing a weekend update post. Friday I took the day off of work so that I could uphold the tradition (and necessary evil) of going Christmas shopping with my mom, aunt, and cousins. When I say necessary evil, it’s the crowds and the pressure of getting it all done that I hate, not the company. The mall we went to had a huge Christmas tree in the middle and if anyone thought they would get out of taking a selfie in front of it while I was around, they were sadly mistaken. Saturday was tree day, where my mom picked out the best…

photo dump: world photography day
Your eyes are not deceiving you, I’m actually posting on a Saturday! It’s a special Saturday because it’s also World Photography Day. Being that I am a true professional*, I would love to share some of my favorites to the masses** *totally not a professional **all 5 of you I’ve posted most (all, probably) of these in previous posts but let me have this. Obviously, some are more edited than others, some are straighter than others, some are overall better than others, but they all make me feel good. I could tell you a story about each one. I have, if you look hard enough, but I’m not going to…

commemorating thirty
how does someone who was pretty much mentally ready to turn 30, but still feels not adult enough to be 30, celebrate the event? with a photo shoot, duh. as we all know, a little less than a month ago, i turned 30. i pretty much had gotten over the whole “wahhh i’m not married, i don’t have kids, i’m single as a dollar bill, i hate my job(s), I’M NOT READY FOR THIS nonsense a while ago. However, i felt like I needed to do something frivolous and fun for myself to officially leave my twenties behind. i searched all over the internet for a photographer who does session photography that…

san fran…ciscooooo [photo dump days three & four]
Welcome back for days 3 & 4 of Martina’s San Franciscan adventure. I’ve decided to lump Saturday and Sunday together because although we did things, I feel like I didn’t take enough pictures for two separate blog posts. Anyway… Saturday was a rough day for me. Being in the cold, wet air the night before and not feeling well to begin with was not ideal. Add on to that having to search for a backpack to replace mine that broke, I was not a happy camper. Our hotel was on the borderline of the Tenderloin neighborhood and Nob Hill. The Tenderloin is known for their homeless population. According to what we heard,…

my heart in [san francisco photo dump day 2]
Day 2 and we’re on a roll. For the record, my ears had pretty much fixed themselves after a good night’s sleep. thank heaven for little miracles. Our second day was chock full of tourist things. I love being a tourist and really taking in my surroundings. So this was the day I was most excited for. So excited, in fact, I was thisclose to buying a fanny pack. A neon, see through fanny pack. living my best life. We started the day early with a $13 egg mcmuffin and coffee that is still making hair grow on my back from the market in the hotel. It was a blessing and a…

weekend update: bridge views
Happy Monday! Except for me, it’s more like Wednesday since I’ve been working since Saturday. See what having a weekend job does to you? Or maybe it’s just me since tons of other people seem to cope much better than I do. Anyway, I figured I would share what I did this weekend, even though it was technically Thursday and Friday. Wednesday afternoon I got a text from Lisa asking if I wanted to go to the Promenade later that day. I’ve talked about the Promenade before. It’s in Brooklyn Heights, has excellent views of lower Manhattan and is where I spent most of my lunch breaks in college. So,…

finalist squared.
According to Facebook, it’s been 10 days since I’ve last posted. TEN DAYS. I really don’t know what’s wrong with me or where my motivation went. I thought I was hitting a stride, and then, mid-leap I hit a wall. HARD. Anyway, not to make any empty promises, I’m going to get myself back on track, hopefully sooner rather than later. I just wanted to hop on here and share with you guys some good news. Remember last year when I entered that photo contest and was picked as a finalist? Well, I entered again, and for the second time in a row, I was named a finalist! I submitted two photos…
