brushes with celebrity and birthday celebrations

Ughhhh. I started a post and then got so carried away with the Oscars that I closed the tab – like a big idiot.

Anyway, as I was saying, it’s been ridiculously cold here for, like, ever. So cold that my will to live do anything has seemingly flown right out the window. Today though, the temperature has generously gone up to 40-ish degrees and I didn’t know what to do with myself. I drove with my car window cracked open! I went outside without a jacket! It was surreal and amazing. Tomorrow, the temperature plummets again. sigh.

Last night, we (my cousins and I) went out for my cousin Desiree’s birthday. She picked a place in the Village that gets pretty packed, pretty quickly. So instead of fighting with the crowds for some food, I went to find food with some of my cousins and their significant others. We trudged through the snow until we found the Olive Tree Cafe. We went in and had to wait a little while but it sure as hell beat walking around in the snow and slush. So, we’re standing in the small vestibule, waiting for a table and a guy passes us. I look up and have a mini freak out.

Me: Jill! Do you know who that was?

Jill: No. Who?

Me: Ok, you know Carly from GirlCode?

Jill: Yea

Me: Her boyfriend!

Jill: What’s his name?

Me: I don’t know, but he’s on SNL!

His name is Pete Davidson, by the way.

So now I’m looking for Carly or any other famous faces. I mean, I was in the Village. you just never know. Nothing. We sit down and we order and all of a sudden someone passes my table and I look up to see Leslie Jones, again from SNL, walking towards the back of the cafe.

Me: Guys! I just saw someone else from SNL.

Jill, Nikki and Nestor: Who?

Me: I don’t know her name, but I know she’s on SNL. She’s one of the newer cast members.

Well, that was anti-climatic.

It was then that I realized that the restaurant was located upstairs from the Comedy Cellar. well, that explains it. I didn’t get any pictures or autographs so if Pete becomes the next Jimmy Fallon or if Leslie becomes the next Maya Rudolph, so help me God. I mean, good for them; i’ll just be kicking myself for the rest of my life.

When we finished, we started the journey back to the bar where the rest of the party was. We got back just in time to officially (as in, it was midnight) wish Desiree a happy birthday. We had a few more drinks, danced to some NSYNC (the DJ was actually really good) and finally left for the night. The freezing rain had started by then so the block and a half walk to the train station was a real pleasure, as you can imagine.

pretty much sums it up.

I wound up sleeping over at Jill’s or else I’d probably still be driving home. Now, I’m watching (and trying but failing to live-tweet) the Oscars. I already have a list of my favorite looks (*cough* JLO *cough*) so look for that tomorrow(?).

How was your weekend? Have you had enough of winter yet? Who were your favorite Oscar looks?

Let’s discuss!
